SOUVENIR ERZBERG SYBOLD
eisenerZ*ART announced a competition for designing a new souvenir for the region around Eisenerz, based in Styria. That’s why I have started with a research about the famous Erzberg where the mineral Siderit has been mined since the 11th century and which has also been famous for the Erzberg Rodeo.
The Erzberg/ ore mine consists of about 24 floor levels which each has a height of 24 metres. Every level has its name of a saint or a deserved miner. The first one named miner was called Sybold.
Voest Alpine which is a very well known company in Austria is mining the mineral Siderit for the production of steel.
The idea of Petra Stelzmüller’s concept shows one of these “ore mine levels” that is produced of steel — an authentic nearly 100% mulit-recyclable and environment-friendly material.
The serial produced souvenir „Erzberg Sybold“ is therefore from the origin place mined, it could be manufactured in nature/ steel, white or black (one of the colours of the Siderit) and be multiple used:
+ as pencil holder on the desktop,
+ as paper weight,
+ as book support,
+ as door stop,
+ or as a murder weapon for the next TV episode of Tatort ; )
